A classic Greek fable: find yourself in this picture!

Yes, it is you, right there – with your stupid, thankful expression, so happy with your masters caring about you that you willingly leave all decision-making to them. After all, surely they have your best interests at heart?

Don’t you just love that feeling of finally belonging somewhere, in a group that welcomes you with open hoofs? It was so easy to qualify for membership, wasn’t it? Just requiring blind trust in a few of your compatriots elected (some of them even by you) for leadership. You may have thought initially that they were same as you, no better or worse, but they managed to convince you that they were just that little bit more equal (or loud-mouthed?) than the rest of you and therefore needed to be in power. Because they don’t want you to worry about your daily life and having to make decisions. It’s all for your own good and safety, isn’t it?

This is how it’s always been and how it will continue to be. There will always be a handful of sheep in any pasture that get overcome by the urge to become sheepdogs. They grow fangs and egos and forget that they are nothing more but cocky, up-and-coming sheep. Until a true carnivore comes rambling down the mountain and upsets the status quo. Then they choose to run away, most of them. The odd one that stays and takes up the fight inevitably loses, yet sometimes becomes part of the local sheep lore as a revolutionary. And what good is a dead revolutionary anyway, honestly?

The other super-sheep, the ones that got away, bide their time and return to the bleating and upset flock once the danger has passed. And are inevitably seen as heroes and saviours.

Here endeth the lesson: the meek may hope that they will at some point inherit the earth, but statistics are very much against them. In other words, ALL OF US ARE TOTALLY FUCKED!
